Last Sunday I spent a day with scottie, but it was quite an exhausting day and took a lot of endurance. The cold concrete floor got the better of me and so did the boredom of just sitting and watching the crowd go by, It certainly was a harsh reality.
But as always Scottie was his cheerful self and there were a few gems. I watched Scottie look after an elderly lady who is wheel chair bound, fully disabled from the neck down.
Now I am not a smoker and I don't support smoking, but I am certainly not prejudiced against smokers. It was an unforgettable moment watching this lady park herself in front of Scottie and see him bounce up with a cheerful hello, then rummage through her bag all the time chatting with her, as he looked for her cigarettes and lighter. She is unable to do this for her self, so he lights up her cigarette, puts it in her mouth and encourages her to puff...Wow and he is the only one amongst the busy bustling city that bothers to help.
I will try and get a photo next time as she always comes back and Scottie is there for her.
Scottie always takes time to talk to her but she utters no understandable words only sounds. She understands us and her facial expressions communicates the most. So I applaud Scottie for his kind and gentle approach to this fully disabled elderly lady.
