We give out gift hearts because ...
Our World Needs More Heart.
The heart that Scottie is holding is one of the few hand made ceramic hearts that Jazzy's mum Donna makes each month. They are a tedious and time consuming and as such only a few per month are handed out. Jazzy used to sell them for pocket money but now she gives them away as there is more value in giving them than there is in selling them.
The hearts that Scottie gives out are heart key rings that are imported and they also have special encouraging words such as, love, joy, hope, believe and you matter and that's why Scottie loves to give them out, as he gains a great deal of self respect and dignity with each heart he gets to give. The picture below is an example of the heart gifts that scottie gets to give.

Last Sunday I spent a day with scottie, but it was quite an exhausting day and took a lot of endurance. The cold concrete floor got the better of me and so did the boredom of just sitting and watching the crowd go by, It certainly was a harsh reality.
But as always Scottie was his cheerful self and there were a few gems. I watched Scottie look after an elderly lady who is wheel chair bound, fully disabled from the neck down.
Now I am not a smoker and I don't support smoking, but I am certainly not prejudiced against smokers. It was an unforgettable moment watching this lady park herself in front of Scottie and see him bounce up with a cheerful hello, then rummage through her bag all the time chatting with her, as he looked for her cigarettes and lighter. She is unable to do this for her self, so he lights up her cigarette, puts it in her mouth and encourages her to puff...Wow and he is the only one amongst the busy bustling city that bothers to help.
I will try and get a photo next time as she always comes back and Scottie is there for her.
Scottie always takes time to talk to her but she utters no understandable words only sounds. She understands us and her facial expressions communicates the most. So I applaud Scottie for his kind and gentle approach to this fully disabled elderly lady.
Scottie just loves to give out Jazzy's gift hearts, it means the world to him when people accept, he does not ask for a donation but any donation he does appreciate.
Scottie sometimes where's his t shirt Homeless Not Helpless, but our Goal is to eventually replace that t-shirt to a new T-shirt
No longer Homeless, because "YOU" cared

Scotties favourite saying ...I'm not homeless, I'm urban camping.
Cheers Grego's mate
Our friend Scottie,
Scottie is our homeless friend, who every week gives out Jazzy’s gift hearts.
He is the happiest homeless man on Swanson st, always cracking jokes and his favourite saying is, I’m not homeless, I’m urban camping.
Scottie gives out Jazzy’s gift hearts, as it makes him feel so much better about himself and it means the world to him as he gets a kick out of seeing the joy in others when they get a gift heart especially from a homeless man.
Scottie is from New Zealand and has been homeless for just over a year.
A few weeks ago, Scottie and his mate chum who also gives out Gift hearts were both interviewed and ended up on the six o’clock news and there was a big spread in one of the main Melbourne papers. They were discussing how tough it was to be sleeping rough during the big chill. Now people recognise them and they are fast becoming celebrities.
Since then Chum has been given housing but Scottie still sleeps on Swanson st. Chum supports Scottie and hopes that Scottie will find housing soon.
Scottie is popular with the locals as he is always cheerful sometimes sober and sometimes not, but is always tidy and never leaves any rubbish where he sleeps. He has a higher standard than most as homeless people get moved on, he has made a few friends and is able to stay in the one place all year.
Scottie came up with the name “Homeless not Helpless” and Grego founder of Jazzy’s gift with Jazzy‘s support, have encouraged Scottie and Chum to offer Gift hearts instead of begging. The act of giving hearts builds self worth and dignity and is far more socially acceptable than begging.
Check out this video link, it shows a special moment when Scottie got his
“Homeless not Helpless" T Shirt
On August 14 at 7.30, 113 Swanson st we will be surprising both Scottie and Chum
as we are giving them both
“The Biggest Giver Award”
Because they both did something very special. Both Scottie and Chun were invited to sit out the front of Grego’s pizza shop handing out Jazzy's Gift Hearts and they raised about $100. But to Greg’s over whelming surprise they gave every cent to Jazzy’s gift and Greg could not knock them back, as they both were very determined.
Chum then went back to his recently acquired housing, but he had no money and Scottie went back to Swanson st to sleep. Here was the poorest of the poor giving ... and that is why they will be receiving the Biggest Giver Award.
So we all need to chip in and help get Scottie off the street into a warm bed.
We will continue our updates with Scottie, so please watch this space.
Cheers Grego’s Mate.
